Osijek Nk – Milan – Mitropa Cup 1981-82

La squadra croata fu una delle avversarie del Milan nella Mitropa Cup della stagione 1981-1982 che i rossoneri si aggiudicarono avendo la meglio sugli ungheresi dell’Haladas, i cecoslovacchi del Vitkovice, oltre all’Osijek.

Indubbiamente uno dei periodi più bui del Milan che incappò agli inizi degli anni ottanta in due retrocessioni, intervallate dall’unica, tenue, soddisfazione della Mitropa Cup. Trofeo ideato dal segretario della federazione calcistica austriaca Hugo Meisl con l’intendimento di far sfidare le più forti squadre dell’Europa Centrale (la denominazione Mitropa deriva appunto da Mitteleuropa), la Mitropa Cup negli anni trenta era la maggiore competizione continentale tanto da annoverare fino a un massimo di 16 squadre partecipanti.

Nella stagione 1981 – 1982 si confrontarono le squadre vincitrici, nella stagione precedente, dei rispettivi campionati equivalenti alla serie B italiana. L’Osijek, squadra dell’omonima cittadina della Croazia orientale, ha alle sue spalle un retaggio non molto glorioso e sicuramente scarno di vittorie. Infatti, oltre ad avere militato a tutti i campionati nazionali croati finora disputati, si è aggiudicata, nella stagione 1998 – 1999, la Coppa di Croazia unico trofeo nel suo albo d’oro.

In quella Mitropa Cup i croati affrontarono il Milan il 25 novembre 1981 nella gara di andata. Sul loro gagliardetto campeggiava, nella parte superiore, la bandiera della Repubblica Socialista Federale di Jugoslavia che poi, agli inizi degli anni novanta, si sarebbe dissolta dopo sanguinose e nefande guerre mentre lo stemma, similare a quello cittadino, mostrava il profilo di un ponte a tre archi con un fiume (la Drava che attraversa la città) insieme a una torre di una fortificazione a ricordo della cittadella costruita dagli Asburgo nel cuore della cittadina croata.

The Croatian team was one of AC Milan’s opponents in the Mitropa Cup of the 1981-1982 season that the Rossoneri won by defeating the Hungarians of Haladas, the Czechoslovakians of Vitkovice, as well as Osijek.

Undoubtedly one of the darkest periods of AC Milan that stumbled in the early eighties in two relegations, interspersed with the only, tenuous, satisfaction of the Mitropa Cup. Trophy conceived by the secretary of the Austrian football federation Hugo Meisl with the intention of challenging the strongest teams in Central Europe (the name Mitropa derives precisely from Mitteleuropa), the Mitropa Cup in the 1930s was the largest continental competition to include up to 16 participating teams.

In the 1981–1982 season, the winning teams of the respective championships equivalent to the Italian Serie B were compared. Osijek, a team from the town of Osijek of the same name in eastern Croatia, has behind it a not very glorious legacy and certainly a gaunt of victories. In fact, in addition to having played in all the Croatian national championships so far played, they won, in the 1998–1999 season, the Croatian Cup.

In that Mitropa Cup, the Croatian faced AC Milan on 25 November 1981 in the first leg. On their banner stood, at the top, the flag of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia which then, in the early nineties, would dissolve after bloody and nefarious wars while the coat of arms, similar to that of the city, showed the profile of a three-arched bridge with a river (the Drava that crosses the city) along with a tower of a fortification in memory of the citadel built by the Habsburgs in the heart of the Croatian town.
